Founded in 1973, the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (CCBC) is an independent, privately held nonprofit organization. The CCBC’s main objective is to promote commercial, cultural and technological exchange between Brazil and Canada through a differentiated and innovative producer and service. Arminio Calonga, Head of Business Development for CCBC, states that “Management efficiency is the smartest path to be taken by developing countries, such as Brazil. That’s why events such as the Connected Smart Cities are critical: they bring the theme to the city’s agenda, show that technology is needed, and more than that, enable managers to find solutions and partnerships for the challenges they face in their cities”.

According to him, “new technologies make cities more efficient, friendly and cheap some services. For example: public lighting can be managed remotely, reducing costs, and the traffic system, facilitating mobility. The monitoring of cities with cameras integrated to a power station favors the improvement of safety and traffic policies. The possibilities are endless. ”

Arminio Calonga also points out that the first step towards the development of Smart Cities in Brazil is to plan for the long term and plan the actions with the participation of society: “Some cities are already developing initiatives in this sense, such as Porto Alegre, São Paulo and Rio often with private partners.”.

The Connected Smart Cities will take place on September 04 and 05 in 2018, at the Frei Caneca Convention Center in São Paulo. For more information click here
